About
Floor-Routine-Music.com is the sister site to Musical-Designs.com. We hope you’re already familiar with us: Musical Designs has been around since 2001 and our floor music is being competed by gymnasts everywhere. Thank you for putting Musical Designs on the map!
ON THE PERSONAL SIDE:
My name is Karen Habegger and my connection to the sport of gymnastics goes back to 1994 when both of our daughters began taking classes at one of the local gyms. Kelly and Keri started classes at about the same time, and they progressed pretty much at the same pace, too, even though they’re a little over 2 years apart in age. They tried out for and made the competitive team at the same time also, and with 2 brand new Level 4s, our family soon found a new passion! I know there are lots of families who have more than one daughter in gymnastics, and many of them have to split their time between each daughter’s training and meet schedules. We were lucky because for the first few years they were on the team, Kelly and Keri moved up together. This not only made chauffeuring them to the gym very convenient, but going to only 1 meet was great, too (although videotaping them became a challenge from time to time). -:)
They competed 1 year in Level 4, 1 year in Level 5 and 2 years in Level 6. And after that, they went in different directions: Kelly competed 2 more years as a Prep Optional (actually I guess the official term is Novice Optional). During this time she began coaching classes, and she also had the opportunity to coach a level 2 team. Keri went on to compete 1 year in Level 7 and 1 year in Level 8. She experienced the usual nagging injuries, but after she was sidelined one summer by ankle-tendon surgery, she made the tough decision to retire. And it truly was a tough decision because gymnastics had been a huge part of her life for a very long time (she was in 9th grade by now). And needless to say, it was extremely hard on me, too!
ON THE BUSINESS SIDE:
Keri’s retirement was really what inspired me to launch Musical Designs – I guess it was my way of not letting go. *lol* Plus, it also was a great way for me to combine my degree in Music with a sport that I had come to love and enjoy. Developing an internet business has been challenging in many ways, but with each challenge comes fresh opportunity, right? So let’s hope this ole dog can keep up with learning some new tricks (like how to set up a blog, for one thing)!
By the way, if you’re wondering about Musical Designs’ production schedule for 2008, I had to put everything on the back burner this year because Kelly got married. She and Chad got engaged in early January, and the wedding was in July. I’m almost out of “recovery mode” … you moms out there who have gone through this with your daughters, well, you know what I’m talking about. In the months, weeks and days that led up to the wedding, a lot of my time was spent learning how to be a wedding planner (thank goodness for all of those wedding shows on TV)! And you don’t get a 2nd chance: once the big day is here, that’s it. Ready or not! Anyway, I’m happy to say that the wedding was beautiful – thanks in large part to the contributions of many wonderful friends as well as some awesome vendors.
ON THE BLOGGING SIDE:
OK, enough about me – at least for now anyway! From what I’ve read about blogs, you’re supposed to add a new post pretty much every day for something like 3 months. There’s no way I have that kind of time, so I’ll just have to settle for blogging whenever I can. Just figuring out how to customize this blogging program and how to add RSS feeds and all of that kind of stuff is going to take me a while, I’m sure. Not to mention that I have a backup of floor music that’s rattling around in my head! Hm, maybe I’ll just make this whole page be my first blog …
